Do online students need to complete activities outside of the online classroom?

Some courses in the online program may include a Service-Learning designation, which is referred to as a High-Impact Practice (HIP) at UCF. These courses, including but not limited to SOW 4343, SOW 4645, and SOW 3300, may require students to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to meaningful service or experiential learning activities in the community.

Although the program is delivered online, students enrolled in courses with a Service-Learning designation may be required to complete assignments, activities, or community-based experiences outside of the online classroom.

The online BSW requires 53 to 58 social work credits. To earn a bachelor’s degree, students need 120 total credit hours, which includes an AA degree or completed UCF general education requirements.

Yes. UCF鈥檚 online BSW program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

You will need to be admitted to UCF, hold an AA degree or have completed UCF general education requirements, declare Social Work Pending as your major, and hold a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students will also need to complete at least two of the four BSW prerequisites and submit a separate application to the School of Social work that includes a letter of recommendation and a two to four page professional statement. Admission to UCF does not guarantee admission to the online BSW program.

The Advanced Standing MSW program is for students who earn their BSW from a CSWE-accredited program within the last six years with a GPA of 3.3 or higher in their last 60 credit hours. The online BSW qualifies. Students can earn their MSW in one year on campus or 18 months through the online track.

The curriculum content is identical for both options and is regulated by CSWE accreditation standards. The online BSW is completed entirely online with a small number of required synchronous virtual meetings for practice classes. The campus-based program offers face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses. Both options meet for 15-week semesters.

No. All coursework is completed online. Your field placement is completed in person at a community agency. While placements are arranged within your region, proximity to your home is not guaranteed.
