Enhance Your Existing Education

Advance your career with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from UCF. Our doctoral students partner with our esteemed faculty to help develop world-changing solutions. Research focus areas include subsurface conditions and soil testing, geotechnical materials, soil and structural dynamics, intelligent transportation systems, traffic safety, nonlinear structural analysis, reinforced concrete, structural health monitoring, sensors and data analytics for infrastructure, hydraulic modeling, coastal ocean modeling, stormwater management, and watershed management.

Civil Engineering at UCF

At the graduate level, UCF offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering through the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering. The program reflects the very broad nature of the field, which encompasses the design, construction and enhancement of the infrastructure of society. As a student, you can take courses and conduct research in structural analysis and design, geotechnical engineering and foundations, transportation planning and operations, traffic engineering, construction engineering, water resources engineering and smart cities.

Research Facilities

As a civil engineering doctoral student, you’ll collaborate with other researchers in our faculty-led laboratories to develop novel solutions to the problems of today. You’ll find a number of opportunities at our many on-campus labs, including the Center for Advanced Transportation Systems Simulation; the Civil Infrastructure for Resilience and Safety Lab; the Smart and Safe Transportation Lab; the Structures Laboratory; the Transportation Econometric Modeling Group and more. Civil engineering doctoral students also have access to computatonal facilities, the Institute of Simulation of Training, the Materials Characterization Facility and other cutting-edge resources to help develop their research.

Where Do Graduates Work?

Employment opportunities abound for graduates with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from UCF. Florida is among the top states with the highest employment of civil engineers. Our graduates are well prepared to make enduring, impactful contributions at civil and construction-related industries, academic institutions, consulting firms, and city, county, state and federal government agencies.
